Day 2224: Let's hear it for New York

Here they are. The New York pictures. If you follow my Instagram, which most of you do, you will have seen a majority of these. Nevertheless...the pictures.

Work-for-hire picture by Jamey (Danny's brother)

Times Square, or as Danny calls it "people soup"

World Trade Center / Freedom Tower

The love of my life.

Manhattan Bridge

Central Park - Turtle Pond

Belvedere Castle, Central Park (with Danny and Jamey)

Me and my lovely ladies at Brooklyn Bowl

Talib Kweli at Brooklyn Bowl (a stupendous show!)

Talib sang "You Say He's Just A Friend," "Eleanor Rigby,"
and basically rocked the socks off everyone in the venue.

30 Rock

Inside St. Patrick's Cathedral, where Danny wrote a little
farewell to Pope Benedict on behalf of his family.

Atlas, near Rockefeller Plaza

It's official -- Danny likes New York when it's warm.

Shutter-priority takes forever and makes for blurry photos.
This darling was the most amazing and accommodating host!

Day 2010: The work never ends, post-NYC

Ooph. Med school really just goes and goes and goes.

New York was fabulous. Here are some pictures.

This kid loves to mug.

Life moves on, later in the day of the Empire State shooting.

Birthday dinner!

The new World Trade Center (the funky shaped one)

Danny's favorite picture of me. Studying makes me pout.

Danny and I are disappointed we got so few pictures together! Still, a great trip. I love seeing friends. It only makes my entire world.

Today was a crappy day on a lot of counts (socially/friend-wise and family health-wise) but all the right people called me today to make me feel loved and cared for and reminded me that despite all the downs in life, there are lots of ups around you if you look for them. I love you BFFFH (et al :P)!

Day 2006: Happy birthday to me!

For the big quarter-century, my boyfriend surprised me with a trip to New York City! We are currently on a plane (yes, this early) en route! We plan on seeing my friends, hanging out in Central Park, running in Central Park, doing a little shopping, perhaps catching a play/show, eating and enjoying the atmosphere that is the greatest city on earth.

Now you all understand why I had to be on top of my school game and why I will probably still be studying whilst in the Big Apple. If anything, I will have the glorious New York City skyline to study to. Below are two photos I took of New York ages ago, just because I love this city at-least-two-photos-worth.

Day 1124: New York, my one true love.

I was in New York for eight days. It had been two years since I had been. I need you to understand how at home I feel in New York. It feels like I'm whole. And if you've met/hung out with me in the last six months, I am very, very whole. I'm a little intense in my wholeness. Imagine how complete I feel in New York. It's just a very comfortable feeling. Walking the streets. Finding new things around every corner. Eating and gaining back all the weight I lost doing yoga. Seeing friends. It's all just a wonderful feeling that I have decided I have to find my way back post-med school. Have to. Must. Absolutely necessary.

I had to get a new phone while I was there so I lost my pictures when I synced my old info onto my new phone. Luckily I saved these to my email. The rest were just photos from the Met and the "Celebrating 100 Years" at the New York Public Library. It was sad at first, but these were my keepers anyway.

Day 897: Undergraduate musings

Having had the great pleasure of participating in four medical school interviews, it was my last one in Milwaukee that led me to this post.

For those of you that know (and those of you that don't), I went to college in New York.

I'm from California.

Upon telling people this, they all seem very impressed. Well, maybe not impressed, but they do tend to say, "wow you've been all over." I didn't realize that it was odd to go to university outside of your state. All of my friends from college did the same thing. One is from Wisconsin, the other is from North Carolina by way of Indiana, and the others are from nearby Pennsylvania. Of course, there's my one friend from New York state (you know who you are), and I actually found it odd that she stayed in New York. I suppose it's what you're used to.

Anyway, I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to study in New York. It provided me opportunities abound that I certainly would not have had if I went to a state school (which my mother still laments).

It also, I find, made me much more willing to up-and-move to wherever. I kid you not, every single student and/or applicant I spoke to in Milwaukee told me they ended up attending this school (or applying/interviewing at this school) for the sheer fact that they wanted to get away from home and/or college. It would have been too much of the same and they all wanted to get away.

I realized, probably by the fourth person that told me this, that I'm not getting away from anything. Home is always going to be California. If I seem especially willing to leave it, it doesn't mean I don't love it. I adore California. But I'll always come back. To see family and friends and whatnot. So, I don't feel a pressing need to stay because I know I'll always return. I think I just never realized how different it was of me to be so willing to move. Especially when I've never considered myself to be terribly nomadic or anything of the sort.

You really learn (or finally glean) something new (about yourself, in this case) everyday.

Day 380: New York, New York

Hello!

I am currently in New York and I have many feelings about it. Probably four, at least.

I'm always amazed at how easy it is to fall back into city life. The subway. Honking cars. Tourists every which way. The walking. The food. Shopping. It's all so ... routine, but in the best way possible.

I've seen a few people already and loved every moment of it. I've only eaten and not really shopped, which is always a good thing. I should get chubby and broke, not well-dressed and broke ;)

My gal-pal Tori and I have had a slow start today but it was all for the better. Rather than work out in her complex's sweet gym, I instead filled out more of my med school application. It's crazy to think that I'm applying. It's all really happening...eep!

Day 289: My how things change!

Snow day on Monday. Everything has been shifted and moved.

The moral of the story is I have an Organic exam at 9am tomorrow (original date) and a Physics exam after that at 10am (which was rescheduled). Then I have SIP stuff to do from 11am-1pm and then I have to get my act together for NYC (my flight is at 3:30).

I think I pulled my hamstring?

Anyway, back to studying.

Day 280: Seven miles and then some

Quick update.

Ran seven miles on Sunday.

Labs today were fine. Meh. Stimulated a frog's gastrocnemius muscle (it's thigh). That was pretty sweet. Totally f-ed up my Organic lab. Yeah, don't worry about it. I worked it out.

Exams galore (Round 2) next week -- Physiology quiz, Physiology lab quiz, Physics exam and Organic exam.

Then ... New York City after that, thank heavens!

Day 157: Back to school and NY Pictures

Hey all,

I have returned from the Big Apple. It's still big and apple like. Anyhoo, here are the few pictures I took of the city and whatnot.

New York Public Library -- a couple was getting married that day!

Ashley's hand is blocking the flash -- still, fun picture :P

Central Park (from the lower west side)

More shots from the nouveau-discovered-lake-thing

Just a guy lounging, reading, enjoying the day

It's been a difficult week. Mainly because my head hasn't been in the game but I'm setting it straight this weekend. It was an easy week though, no labs, just hanging out really.

Physics test next week (uh, yeah, about that) and then a Chem II test to proctor. And then more tests. Whatever, c'est la vie de une etudiante (I have no idea if any of that was correct...I like to make up words in different languages :P)
