Day 1338: Something you bought

Today's picture: Something you bought

I bought this new eyelash curler when I found out they no longer sold the Shu Uemura eyelash curler in the states. I tested it for the first time today and I love it!

School-wise, exams are coming up in 10 days. I really am not stressed about exams. I probably should be but ...I'm not. We'll see how I feel next week. Aside from that, it snowed yesterday, I almost froze my hands to death when I brushed/scraped the snow off my car. Boring boring.

Oh! Important school stuff. Lately, my physiology class has been very physics-heavy. Lots of Ohm's Law and lots of flow and resistance stuff. Dad! You would be so proud. And, you would probably understand bloodflow better than I would, haha.

One last thing, this whole anti-piracy situation going on is a wee bit tedious for those of us in graduate school. I don't have Wikipedia, okay, fine. I have books I can learn from. But I can't even make my flashcards today! I mean, yay for solidarity but come on. Some of us have to save lives in the future ;)

Okay, back to the books! See you all tomorrow!

Day 1337: Water

Today's picture: water

I know you can't tell by the picture but that misty bottom portion of the picture is the fog that developed on my side of the window. And then there are the water droplets outside my window. And by water droplets, I mean snow. It is, yes, snowing again here. I am not complaining, solely stating a fact. The weather is awful outside and luckily I have no required classes to attend today so I am staying inside. Depending on how the weather fares (fairs?) later today, I may head out to the gym. If not, I will just stay home and learn.

I apologize for not posting yesterday. I just couldn't make the "morning" post happen. Anyway, I didn't study as much as I wanted to yesterday but I did get to connect with some of my med school friends here and have really invigorating conversations about religion and life and the sort. It wasn't the best academic use of my time, I felt like it was still a great use of my personal time. I feel very lucky to have found friends I can speak openly with about any and most subjects.

Day 1289: What is wrong with this weather?

Please tell me why my windshield looks like this.

Doesn't it look pretty?

Too bad it was colder than frozen tilapia.

I didn't even know my car could read temperatures this low.

Day 1269: The first snow

Oh boy. In North Carolina, they had no idea how to deal with snow. Here, this is a slIce of easy pie. Let's hope I don't die driving tO school today. I have a tendency to accelerate too quickly from a stop and brake too quickly toward a stop. I'll be careful. Promise.

Edit: It's snowing harder! (Look. I know it's not big snow. And I've been in snow before. It's just been a while, okay?)

Day 285: Cold studying

It's cold out...and in my apartment. To avoid utilities overages, I set my thermostat to 65 degrees. Apparently I have to keep it at that temperature so my pipes won't burst. Anyway, I'm feeling especially cold right now, so I'm wearing four layers of tops, two pairs of pants, two pairs of socks and a hat. ...I look amazing.

In other news, I ran eight miles today. I'm aiming for double-digit mileage. (And then a half-marathon?)

I've got a lot of studying to do this week. I'm not that worried about it for some reason. I think I just know I'll get it done. And Organic seems less daunting this time around and Physics is Physics. Physiology is just cool. We're being quizzed on muscles -- skeletal (the ones we can see and feel) and smooth (the ones that make up blood vessels, airways and abet digestion). Hmm, what can I tell you about muscles that won't put you to sleep?

Oh, this is interesting. When there is a blockage in your blood vessel, pressure on that blood vessel increases. This increased pressure causes your body to produce more (vascular circular) smooth muscle to support the blood vessel (so that it doesn't burst = aneurysm). If the blockage (aka plaque) doesn't move, too much muscle is built around the vessel and this creates even more pressure on the blood vessel. Eventually the plaque will enter the vessel (rather than just hang out on its outskirts) and that could lead to a myocardial infarction (heart attack).

Crazy right?

The body is crazy freaking cool. I can't wait to cut one open!

Day 246: Snow Day!

I love this city. I mean seriously. Who closes most schools as a result of 2 inches of snow on the ground? What wimps! Ashley and I walked in FEET of snow to RA selection the day after a frickin' blizzard. I mean come on people. I think they freak out when things that aren't water start to fall out of the sky. They just don't know what to do with themselves. It's hilarious.

I still had class (a delay until 10 am) but one of the other universities in town canceled class. How absurd!

Anyway, here are some pictures from my window and of my balcony. (Snow-covered!)

The pool doesn't freeze because of water's specific heat capacity.

Snow-covered everything!

Snow on the balcony!

Anyhoo, I had Physiology lab today. Apparently the course instructor is my lab instructor as well. That's good face time, I think. And I didn't know if I had Organic II lab today so ... I didn't go? Whatever dude. The O-Chem lab coordinator loves me so even if he's not my exact instructor ... whatever. He'll give me an A. I'm being over-confident, I know. I'm still going to work my butt off, don't worry. It just helps that me and most of the Chemistry department are BFFs. Seriously.
